Cluster: niche selection

Pick a niche before your fifth client, not your first.

Most new agencies stay generalists too long, ranking for nothing and writing forgettable cold emails. The right time to niche is after you've sent enough cold emails to know which segment replies. This page tells you how to choose.

Why niching matters (and when it doesn't)

A vertical agency wins for three reasons: their cold emails reference real industry pain, their portfolio is comparable across prospects, and their SEO content concentrates around a single keyword cluster.

But niching too early is also a trap. If you pick before you've sent 100 cold emails, you're guessing. The right sequence is: 1) outbound widely for 30 days, 2) note which segments reply, 3) double down where the replies came from.

How to score a niche for your situation

Use our free Niche Picker quiz below. It asks 6 questions about your skills, region, and deal-size appetite, then ranks the 12 niches against your specific profile.

If you want to compare across cities at a glance, the Niche Profitability Map shows which city x niche cells have the highest share of weak websites (the higher the share, the bigger your opportunity).

After you pick: build templates

Once you've narrowed to one niche, your first job is to build 3 cold-email templates specific to it (audit angle, mockup angle, competitor angle), one ICP canvas, and a 5-minute pitch deck.

These compound. Email 50 dentists with a dentist-specific email and your reply rate triples vs. a generic one. The Cold Email Template Library has niche-tagged starting points.

Preguntas frecuentes

  • Should I niche by industry or by deliverable?

Industry first, deliverable second. 'Websites for dentists' beats 'one-page sites for any small business' because the cold email writes itself when you know the buyer.

  • What if I pick the wrong niche?

Switching is cheap. The cold-email templates and ICP doc you build are 80% transferable to any adjacent niche. Don't agonize: pick, test, switch in month 2 if the data says so.

  • Are some niches saturated?

Restaurants and gyms are the most competitive globally. Trades, vets, and accountants are wide-open in most cities. Use the Niche Profitability Map to check your city before committing.
